Making Corporate Accountability Mandatory in the EU Banner

On 23 February 2022, the European Commission published a legislative proposal for Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence. Central to this initiative is the proposal to introduce binding EU legislation which would compel businesses to conduct human rights and environmental due diligence in their operations and supply chains.

This publication briefly explores the background to this legislative proposal and examines some of the major issues with the voluntary approach to corporate accountability. It then evaluates the positives and shortcomings of the draft Directive before considering the potential implications for Ireland.
