Food for Thought Ireland and the UN Food Systems Summit

This paper outlines the importance of the UN Food Systems Summit for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and assess how Ireland intends to assume a leadership role. It begins by outlining Ireland’s food systems approach and argues that linking agri-food policy with international development and foreign policy objectives has the potential to create transformative change to global food systems. The paper identifies potential like-minded partners for Ireland. It also analyses possible domestic challenges that may diminish Ireland’s leadership ambitions. The paper concludes by  elaborating on what exactly the UN Food Systems Summit could  mean for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
