Digital Policy and the Transatlantic Relationship: Opportunities and Challenges

In her address to the IIEA, Frances Burwell discusses the transatlantic relationship from the perspective of digital policy. Ms Burwell argues that the EU is moving forward with an ambitious digital agenda while the Biden administration is still trying to decide how to approach digital policy. Ms Burwell examines disagreements and tensions in the transatlantic digital relationship and assess the possibilities for EU-US cooperation. She also examines the possible role of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council in contributing to digital policy cooperation.

About the Speaker:

Frances G. Burwell is a distinguished fellow at the Atlantic Council and currently leads the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Digital Marketplace Initiative. She is also a senior director at McLarty Associates. She was previously the Director of the Atlantic Council’s programme on Transatlantic Relations and also served as vice president at the Atlantic Council for the European Union and Special Initiatives. She has published many papers on the transatlantic relationship and digital policy.
