As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continued to dominate politics and media, Northern Ireland moved into the formal campaign period prior to the May Assembly election. And, a troubling return to violence, with a hoax bomb alert in Belfast, gave rise to much concern about the hardening of attitudes in the Protocol debate and a new loyalist targeting of the Good Friday Agreement.
