As politics resumed after summer break, the UK Command Paper returned to the centre of attention in London, Dublin and Brussels. North-South and East-West relations also gained momentum as the Tánaiste travelled to Northern Ireland for talks with unionist leaders, whilst the Taoiseach was in Oxford for a meeting of the British-Irish Association. It was not only the Irish officials travelling and discussing Brexit: President Macron of France made his way to Dublin and reaffirmed EU solidarity for Ireland.
