Brexit Brief 115

The UK Government introduced its Command Paper on the ‘way forward’ for the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland (the Protocol) on the last day of the Westminster parliamentary term and days before the annual Brussels August shutdown. It is unlikely that there will be any substantive discussion before September, but early exchanges indicated little possibility of agreement on the UK’s proposals, with both the European Commission and the Irish Government maintaining that the Protocol is not up for renegotiation. This edition of the Brexit Brief covers these developments, and brings together reaction from the UK, EU and Ireland.

The Brexit Brief is written by Tony Brown, IIEA Senior Fellow, on behalf of the IIEA’s UK Expert Group.
