On Tuesday, 25 October 2022, the Conservative Party elected Rishi Sunak as its new leader, amid hopes that the UK's third Prime Minister in as many months might finally bring an opportunity for a reset in EU-UK relations. As negotiations to resolve issues with the Northern Ireland Protocol remained at an impasse, and the deadline for fresh Assembly Elections in Northern Ireland loomed, Tony Connelly, Europe Editor for RTÉ, discussed whether the election of Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister would herald a fresh start for EU-UK relations.

Tony Connelly is Europe Editor for RTÉ. He has reported extensively on Brexit, and has been covering European affairs since 2001, most recently reporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
