Paper - Seeking Symbiosis: Does the new Common Agricultural Policy resonate with the ambitions of the European Green Deal?

This paper, by IIEA Global Europe Researcher, Emily Binchy, entitled Seeking Symbiosis, explores the extent to which the new Common Agricultural Policy (2023-2027) resonates with the ambitions of the European Green Deal. Written in the 60th anniversary year of the foundation of the CAP, and in anticipation of the coming into force of the new strategy in 2023, this paper identifies spheres of complementarity and friction between the CAP and the European Green Deal. It explores further exogenous challenges, such as food security and trade disruption, to the alignment of the EU’s landmark agricultural policy and ambitious green framework.
