Recent developments at the UNSC
- In a Security Council meeting on the drawdown of the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan on 27 July 2021, Ireland highlighted the importance of the protection of civilians and the implementation of Sudan’s National Protection of Civilians Plan.
- EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, released a statement on 27 July 2021 condemning Turkey’s unilateral actions with regard to the situation in Varosha.
- In a Security Council meeting on the Palestinian question on 28 July 2021, Ireland underscored that the ceasefire agreed between Israel and Hamas must be respected and condemned illegal demolitions in Humsa.
- Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney reflected on his visit to Kenya and Somalia in a piece for the Irish Examiner on 28 July 2021.
- Ireland emphasised that a comprehensive gender approach was necessary for counter-terrorism responses to be effective at an Arria formula meeting on preventing terrorism and violent extremism on 28 July 2021.
- The Security Council passed a resolution to renew the sanctions regime for the Central African Republic as well as a resolution to renew the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus on 29 July 2021.
- Ireland reiterated its concern at the worsening humanitarian situation in Myanmar at an Arria formula meeting organised by the UK on 29 July 2021.

- The Security Council expected to adopt a presidential statement on the drawdown and closure of the AU/UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).
