Recent developments at the UNSC
- Ireland reiterated its support for the peace process in Colombia at a Security Council meeting on Tuesday 13 July 2021.
- The Security Council unanimously renewed the UN Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement in Yemen on Wednesday 14 July 2021. Ireland reiterated its call for a nationwide ceasefire.
- The Security Council adopted a Presidential Statement on Libya calling for free and fair elections and full implementation of the October 2020 ceasefire agreement on Thursday 15 July 2021.
- Ireland underlined the need to protect humanitarian medical workers and the need to ensure accountability for violations of international humanitarian law in the Security Council open debate on Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict on Friday 16 July 2021.
- Following the meeting on Colombia on 13 July, the Security Council adopted a Presidential Statement calling for unanimous support for the peace process on 16 July 2021.
Monday – 19th July
- Monthly meeting on the political situation in Syria in closed consultations. Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen is the anticipated briefer.
Tuesday – 20th July
- UN Official Holiday.
Wednesday – 21st July
- Closed consultations on the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Special Representative and head of UNFICYP Elizabeth Spehar will brief.
Thursday – 22nd July
- Closed consultations on the implementation of resolution 1701, which in 2006 called for a cessation of hostilities between the Shi’a militant group Hezbollah and Israel. The expected briefers are Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col.
Friday – 23rd July
- The 2127 Central African Republic Sanctions Committee will hold a meeting with regional countries on the recent report of its Panel of Experts, which the Council received on 25 June 2021.
- The 2374 Mali Sanctions Committee will meet to discuss its Panel of Experts’ final report.
