Week 23, 7 - 11 June 2021

Recent developments at the UNSC

Monday – 7th June    

  • Briefing from François Louncény Fall, Special Representative and head of UNOCA, on the UN Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA).
  • Discussion on the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) under “any other business”, at the request of France and the “A3 plus one” (Kenya, Niger, Tunisia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines).
  • Meeting with troop-contributing countries of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

Tuesday – 8th June

  • Private Council meeting to discuss the recommendation for the appointment of the Secretary-General.
  • Semi-annual debate on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), including briefings from the IRMCT’s President, Carmel Agius, and its Prosecutor, Serge Brammertz.

Wednesday – 9th June  

  • Semi-annual briefing of the ICC Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, on the court’s work on Darfur.

Thursday – 10th June

  • Annual meeting on cooperation between the UN and the EU, including a briefing from EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
  • Meeting with troop-contributing countries of the UN Disengagement Observer Force in the Golan Heights (UNDOF), including a briefing from Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix.

Friday – 11th June

  • Elections for the five available non-permanent Security Council seats to take place in the General Assembly.
