The Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Redmond as its new Director General. 
 
Mark will take up the position on 12 October 2026 from Dr Orlaigh Quinn, who has served as Interim Director General since July 2026. 
 
Mark brings extensive leadership, particularly in membership organisations, policy, advocacy and organisational transformation experience to the role. Over the course of his career, he has worked with current and emerging leaders across the multinational and domestic business sectors, professional services firms, the State and semi-state sectors, academia, and the not-for-profit sector in Ireland and internationally. 
 
Mark previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland (AmCham Ireland) from 2014 to 2024 and as Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Tax Institute from 2004 to 2014. During his tenure leading both organisations, he delivered significant programmes of strategic transformation and growth, strengthening their influence, membership engagement, and policy impact. 
 
Throughout his career, Mark has engaged at the highest levels of government, business and international affairs, working with Taoisigh, Government Ministers, Ambassadors, European Commissioners, senior  International political leaders, and policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic. He has led advocacy and policy engagement on major issues including transatlantic trade, data protection, international tax reform and Brexit. 
 
Announcing the appointment, Feargal O'Rourke, Chairperson of the IIEA Board, said: "The Board is delighted to appoint Mark Redmond as the next Director General of the IIEA. Mark brings an exceptional combination of leadership experience, strategic vision and public policy expertise. Throughout his career he has demonstrated a remarkable ability to build organisations, foster constructive engagement between stakeholders, and navigate complex policy environments at national and international levels. 
 
"The IIEA plays a unique role in Ireland's public discourse as an independent forum for informed debate and analysis on European and international issues. At a time of profound geopolitical, economic and technological change, Mark's experience and leadership will help ensure the Institute continues to strengthen its impact, serve its members, and contribute meaningfully to policy discussions in Ireland and beyond." 
 
Commenting on his appointment, Mark Redmond said: "I am honoured to be appointed Director General of the IIEA. For more than three decades, the Institute has made an important contribution to Irish public life by promoting informed discussion and independent analysis of the issues shaping Ireland, Europe and the wider world.

Feargal O'Rourke also paid tribute to Dr Quinn for her leadership during the transition period: "On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Dr Orlaigh Quinn for her outstanding contribution as Interim Director General. The Institute was extremely fortunate that Orlaigh was at the time able to step into the role from her Board position. She provided steady and insightful leadership during an important period for the Institute, ensuring continuity, stability and strategic focus. We are deeply grateful for her commitment to the IIEA and her willingness to step into the role at a critical time."
