US-China Relations in the Aftermath of Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine

The War in Ukraine has had profound implications for both the European and the Indo-Pacific security environments. China and the United States are watching developments in Europe closely, and their global strategies will not be unchanged by European events. As the Biden Administration tries to refocus on the Indo-Pacific, and the Chinese Communist Party seeks to assert itself as a regional hegemon, both China and the US will have to navigate not only an increasingly complicated geopolitical landscape, but a contested Indo-Pacific theatre.

About the Speaker:

Bonny Lin is a senior fellow for Asian security and director of the China Power Project at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Previously, she was the acting associate director of the Strategy and Doctrine Program of RAND Project AIR FORCE and a political scientist at the RAND Corporation, where she analysed different aspects of U.S. competition with China, including U.S.-China competition for influence in the Indo-Pacific and China’s use of Gray Zone tactics against U.S. allies and partners. Her research advised senior leaders in the Department of Defence, including military leaders at U.S. Pacific Air Forces and U.S. Army Pacific.
