Towards a Common European Asylum System

The development of the EU’s Common European Asylum System (CEAS) has been underway for two decades. The New Pact on Migration and Asylum was presented in 2020 to jump start discussion on the reform of the CEAS and to build a comprehensive migration and asylum system. Ms Gregori paints a picture of developments so far and outlines where the legislative framework is going with the New Pact on Migration and Asylum. As geopolitical developments have led to novel approaches to asylum policy, Ms Gregori examines the lessons learnt thus far and how they will be taken into account by the EU institutions and the Member States.
