The State of Africa-Europe: Green Industrialisation as the Axis of a Transformative Partnership

This event has been organised in partnership with the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF).
This event will explore the future of the Africa-Europe partnership and how to translate shared ambitions into practical cooperation. Taking place during Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union and feeding into upcoming multilateral policy discussions, from COP31 to AU-EU institutional dialogues, this event will draw on the analysis and impact stories of the forthcoming AEF 2026 State of Africa-Europe Report to explore opportunities for a more competitive, resilient, and mutually beneficial partnership.
Against a shifting geopolitical landscape, the discussion will examine green industrialisation as an organising framework for connecting Africa-Europe cooperation on energy, trade, investment, and digital transformation. Building on the report’s initial findings and real-world examples of cooperation in action, it will consider how these enabling systems can foster productive economies and resilient Africa-Europe value chains. It will also identify opportunities for Ireland and the EU to advance this agenda and deepen engagement with African partners during the remainder of Ireland’s EU presidency and beyond.
Panellists will include:
- Holy Ranaivozanany, Deputy Executive Director of the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF)
- Dr Penelope Muzanenhamo, Assistant Professor in Marketing and Society and former Assistant Professor in Business in Africa at University College Dublin (UCD)
- Dr Susan Murphy, Associate Professor in Development Practice, School of Natural Sciences, Trinity College Dublin (TCD)
More panellists to be announced.
