The North Seas Opportunity: Delivering security and affordability through offshore wind cooperation

In January 2026, the heads of North Seas countries confirmed their ambition to deploy 300GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050, with up to 100GW from cross border joint projects. Turning this ambition into real-world deployment will enable the EU to leverage this renewables powerhouse, and deliver competitive, secure and resilient electricity to its industry and citizens. But as the process now moves from the high-level commitments of last January’s Summit to the technical delivery of the planning, financing and regulatory frameworks, political buy-in and momentum for the process must be maintained. Now is the moment for European leaders to renew the strategic imperative of cooperation and the political ambition to deliver the North Seas ambitions.
The event will include a keynote address from an Irish government representative, a presentation of the E3G recommendations drawn from a report on the topic, and an expert panel discussion.
Panellists will include:
- Eamon Ryan, E3G Senior Associate, Catalyse Europe Senior Associate and former Minster for Environment, Climate & Communications
Further speakers to be announced.
This event is organised in collaboration with Third Generation Environmentalism (E3G).
