The Irish Presidency’s Digital Policy Priorities: Steering Europe’s Digital Agenda to Promote Europe’s Competitiveness and Values

As Ireland takes the helm of the rotating presidency of the EU Council in July 2026, digital policy is at the forefront of Europe’s efforts to bolster its competitiveness, uphold its values, and increase its resilience. As a key hub for the digital economy, the future of EU digital policy is critical both for Ireland and for the Irish presidency’s thematic focus of promoting a competitive, secure and valued-centred Europe. In this event an expert panel will discuss Ireland’s digital policy priorities, the dilemmas and challenges that the Irish presidency will have to navigate, and assess how best the Irish presidency can focus its attention. Amongst other topics, this event may particularly explore the role of the single market strategy, Europe’s new regulatory proposals, and the simplification agenda, in achieving the EU’s digital policy goals.
