About the Speech:

Brexit and the recent instability in Northern Ireland pose some key questions for policy makers and politicians on these islands: How damaged are North-South relations by the current instability in unionism? What are the implications for Northern Ireland’s peace process? Is there an acceptable version of the Northern Ireland Protocol? Has Brexit undermined British-Irish relations?  Is the route towards a united Ireland clearer or more complicated?

In this IIEA webinar, Tommie Gorman will draw on his experience to address these questions and will reflect on the future of Northern Ireland and British-Irish relations.

About the Speaker:

Tommie Gorman is the former Northern Editor at RTÉ. A native of Sligo, he started his career at the Western Journal in the late 1970s, before moving to RTÉ, where he spent over four decades in a variety of roles, including North West Correspondent and Europe Editor, before moving to Belfast as Northern Editor in 2001. He also produced a number of television documentaries on the topic of Northern Ireland and on pre-EU accession countries. Mr Gorman was awarded EMI’s European of the Year in 2001 for his work covering the EU institutions and was awarded an honorary master's degree by NUI Galway in October 2009.
