The Digital Markets Act: Reshaping Europe’s Digital Economy

Andreas Schwab, MEP, European Parliament Rapporteur for the Digital Markets Act

About the Speech:

In March 2022 the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament reached a provisional political agreement on the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The Act aims to address the dominance of very large digital technology companies that have been dubbed “gatekeepers” by the European Commission, and to transform how Europe’s digital economy works. In his address, Andreas Schwab outlines the development of the DMA since the Commission’s initial proposal and discusses what future the DMA might herald for Europe’s digital economy.
