On 3 February 2022, the DUP finally acted on a long running threat to bring down the Stormont institutions in protest against the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland. The First Minister, Paul Givan, resigned, and under the Stormont power sharing rules the Sinn Féin Deputy First Minister, Michelle O’Neill, ceased to hold office at the same time. Elsewhere, the UK Government marked the two year anniversary of Brexit, with a new publication outlining its key achievements in this time, as well as its goals for the post-Brexit era.
