The Colombian Peace Process: An International Perspective

A panel discussion with H.E. Sergio Jaramillo Caro, former High Commissioner for Peace in Colombia and Eamon Gilmore, former EU Special Envoy for the Peace Process in Colombia.



In this joint event organised by the IIEA and the Normandy for Peace World Forum, the IIEA hosts a panel discussion with Sergio Jaramillo Caro, former High Commissioner for Peace in Colombia, and Eamon Gilmore, EU Special Representative for Human Rights and former EU Special Envoy for the Peace Process in Colombia. The discussion centres on the theme of this year’s Normandy World Peace Forum, The Peacemakers, and provides a perspective on the role of the EU in facilitating conflict resolution and reconciliation processes, in order to establish long-term, sustainable peace.

About the Speaker:

H.E Sergio Jaramillo Caro served as High Commissioner for Peace for the Santos Administration from 2012-2017 and was previously the National Security Advisor of Colombia from 2010-2012. He was most recently the Ambassador of Colombia to Belgium. Mr Eamon Gilmore is currently the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, having served as the EU Special Envoy for the Colombian Peace Process from 2015-2019. He was Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Tánaiste of Ireland from 2011-2014.
