The UK’s protracted withdrawal process from the EU has seen numerous constitutional challenges alongside substantial fragmentation and recalibration of national party politics. Considering the pace and scale of recent developments, Lord Hannay takes stock of the current situation in the UK, question whether Brexit is approaching a conclusion, and reflect on the different routes to a resolution.

About the Speaker:

Lord David Hannay joined the UK Diplomatic Service in 1959. He was involved in the negotiations that led to the UK’s entry into the European Communities and then served at the UK embassy in Washington DC before becoming Permanent Representative to the European Economic Community. From 1990 until 1995 he was UK ambassador to the UN.
