In his keynote address, Mr Lamberts outlines the priorities of the Green/European Free Alliance (EFA) Group for the future of Europe, in advance of the upcoming European elections in May 2019. While tackling climate change and ensuring a just transition towards a sustainable Europe is a fundamental goal for the Green/EFA Group, there are a number of other objectives of the Group that have great relevance for Ireland. These include: a ‘radical rethink’ of globalisation and free trade agreements; baseline effective tax rates for multinational corporations in the EU; and enforcement of European values and the rule of law by the EU institutions.
Philippe Lamberts has been a Member of the European Parliament for Belgium since 2009. He has held a number of influential roles within the European Parliament, including spokesperson for the European Green Party (2006-2012), Leader of the Green/EFA Group since 2014, and a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Committee for Industry, Research and Energy. He also serves as a member of the Parliament’s Brexit Steering Group, which coordinates the Parliament’s negotiations and resolutions on the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.
