In his address, Ambassador Yue analysed the outcomes of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. At the historic Congress, President Xi Jinping, who was celebrating the end of his first term in office, stated his belief that China should lead the world on political, economic, military and environmental issues. Ambassador Yue assessed the predicted impact of the Congress on Chinese foreign policy, as well as the resultant implications for Ireland-China relations.

About the Speaker:

Dr Yue Xiaoyong has been Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Ireland since 2016. From 2014 to 2016, Ambassador Yue worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an adviser for the China-Arab States Expo and Ambassador for Policy Planning. Between 2007 and 2013, he was Ambassador to the State of Qatar, and Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He was Head of the Political Office of the Chinese Embassy in the US from 1997 to 2002. Ambassador Yue holds an MA from Wuhan University and a PhD from Beijing University.
