In the eighth year of the Syrian conflict, the newly-appointed United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Geir O. Pedersen, will discuss continued diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict and will present on his sustained dialogue with the Syrian government and the opposition.

About the Speaker:

Geir O. Pedersen was appointed as UN Special Envoy for Syria in January 2019 by Secretary-General Guterres. He previously held various roles in the United Nations, including Special Coordinator for Lebanon (2007 to 2008), Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for Southern Lebanon (2005 to 2007), and Director of the Asia and Pacific Division in the Department of Political Affairs.
