British politics is in a state of flux. An early general election is being advocated by the opposition Labour Party. James Meadway will discuss the economic orientation of the Labour Party under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn and shadow chancellor John McDonnell. He will also look at the policy options and preferences of a future Labour government, along with the opportunities, challenges and risks such a government could face.

About the Speaker:

James Meadway is a former economic advisor to shadow chancellor John McDonnell. He was previously the senior economist at the New Economics Foundation (NEF), where his work focused on developing responses to the recession and austerity. Before joining NEF, James Meadway worked as a policy advisor at HM Treasury, covering regional economic development, and science and innovation policy, and as senior policy advisor at the Royal Society.
