About the Speech:
In her speech, Lotte Knudsen will focus on the role of the European External Action Service in mitigating challenges of migration and asylum and will discuss how the European Union needs to work with its African partners to prevent both push and pull factors for migrants. Ms Knudsen will argue that the EU migration policy has been delivering upon its aims thanks to the partnership approach that it has taken with African governments and its investment in sustainable development. Ms Knudsen will also discuss how the EEAS ensures that all of their objectives are done with the utmost respect for the rights of all migrants and ensures that international conventions are upheld.
About the Speaker:
In February 2016, Lotte Knudsen was appointed Managing Director for Human Rights, Global and Multilateral Issues in the European External Action Service. From December 2014 to February 2016, Ms Knudsen was the Director for Human Development and Migration in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO). In 2010, she was appointed Director for Criminal Justice at DG Justice. Previously, Ms Knudsen worked in different services in the European Commission, including the Secretariat General, External Relations including relations with the United States, enlargement and as an Assistant. In DG Justice, Freedom and Security, she worked as Head of Unit for international relations and enlargement, Head of Unit for organised crime and police cooperation, Acting Director for Security, Head of Unit for the fight against terrorism, Head of Unit for organised crime and police cooperation and Head of Unit for international relations and enlargement.
