In his address to the IIEA, celebrating the opening of the New Zealand Embassy in Dublin, Rt Hon Winston Peters will discuss the ties that bind New Zealand and Ireland together. He will consider the pathways available to small states navigating a global order under stress, and will share insights into New Zealand’s place in the Asia-Pacific region. He will identify New Zealand and Ireland as natural friends and partners with shared and complementary foreign policy interests being advanced through deeper cooperation and creative ideas.

About the Speaker:

Rt Hon Winston Peters was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand after the 2017 general election. He is also the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Disarmament and Arms Control, Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, and Minister for Racing. Mr Peters is Leader of the New Zealand First Party, which has been in coalition with the Labour Party since 2017, with a confidence and supply arrangement with the Green Party. Mr Peters first entered Parliament in 1978 in the electorate seat of Hunua, was MP for the electorate seat of Tauranga from 1984 until 2005, and held the Northland seat from 2015-2017. In 1993, Mr Peters formed the New Zealand First Party after leaving the New Zealand National Party. He was Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer from 1996-1998.
