The fifth African Union—European Union Summit took place in November 2017 and reinforced the relations between the two continents, defining the future direction for cooperation in the areas of: economic opportunities for youth; peace and security; mobility and migration; and cooperation on governance.

About the Speaker:

H.E. Kwesi Quartey was elected Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission in January 2017. In 2015, he was appointed the Secretary to President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, moving from his role as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration. Prior to this, H.E. Kwesi Quartey was the Director of the Legal and Consular Department of the Ghana Foreign Ministry and Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union in Addis Ababa. He has also served in various capacities in Ghana Missions in Cotonou, Cairo, Brussels, Havana, London and the Ghana Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York.
