Intelligence Driven Cyber Defence – A Three Year Journey

In an off-the-record address, Mr Gillen will give a talk on the journey towards intelligence driven cyber defence at Barclays over the last three years and towards proactive cyber defence at this globally significant Bank. Mr Gillen will also discuss setting up a holistic Joint Security Operations Centre, identifying and tracking adversaries, gathering intelligence, cyber threat hunting, top threats and vectors of attack and assisting organisations up to predict, detect and respond to the cyber threat.

About the Speaker:

Paul Gillen is Managing Director of Security Operations and Intelligence, Deputy Group Chief Security Officer and a Director of the Cyber Defence Alliance in the City of London. Mr Gillen is founder and the leader of Barclays’ global suite of Joint Security Operations Centres in the UK, USA and India. As part of his global role, Mr Gillen leads the Cyber Security Operations teams, Joint Security Operations Centres, Group Cyber and Security Intelligence teams and the Security Education, Outreach and Awareness function.

Paul Gillen joined Barclays from the European Cybercrime Centre in Europol, where he was Head of Cybercrime Operations. Mr Gillen was the founding chairperson of the Europol’s European Cybercrime Training and Education Group (ECTEG) and was founding Vice-Chair of the European Union Cybercrime Task Force (EUCTF), a group made up of all the Heads of Cybercrime Units across the EU. Mr Gillen is a graduate of UCD, where he was also co-founder of the UCD Centre of Cyber Security and Cybercrime Investigation.
