EVENT POSTPONED – Future of Europe: The Path to a Union of 27

March 22 | 12:45 pm - 2:30 pm

We regret to inform you that this keynote address by Ann Mettler, which was scheduled for next Thursday, 22 March 2018, has been postponed. In her capacity as an advisor to European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker, Ms Mettler has been requested to be available to President Juncker during the European Council meeting, which will take place on the same day. We are working with Ms Mettler’s office to arrange a new date for her address in the near future

About the Speech:

Speaking to the European Parliament in September 2017, European Commission President Juncker expressed his optimism for the future of the European Union, declaring that the “wind is back in Europe’s sails”.  In her address to the IIEA, Ann Mettler, Director-General at the European Commission where she heads the European Political Strategy Centre, will outline the practical steps and strategic plan that the EU27 must take in order to best capitalise on this revived sense of optimism for Europe. She will discuss the need for a strong Union, with ambitious priorites, that best serves the interest of its citizens.

About the Speaker:

Ann Mettler is a Director-General at the European Commission where she heads the European Political Strategy Centre (EPSC), the in-house think tank which reports directly to President Juncker. In this capacity, Ms Mettler also serves as Chair of the European Strategy and Policy Analysis System (ESPAS), an inter-institutional project aimed at strengthening the EU’s foresight capacity and anticipatory governance. Prior to assuming this position in December 2014, Ms Mettler was for eleven years Executive Director of the Lisbon Council, a Brussels-based think tank she co-founded in 2003. From 2000-2003, she worked at the World Economic Forum, where she last served as Director for Europe.

This event is open to the public as part of the IIEA’s Future of the EU27 Project, which is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
