About the Speech:

The European Union is facing a number of major challenges including the threat of terrorism, unprecedented migration flows, weak economic growth, and, most recently, the UK decision to the leave the European Union. In his speech, Mr. McAllister addressed the current “State of Play” of the European Union, bearing in mind the consequences that “Brexit” might have for the United Kingdom. He also elaborated on the key objectives of the Bratislava process and the future direction of the EU.

About the Speaker:

Mr. McAllister is Chair of the Delegation for relations with the United States and a Vice President of the European People’s Party (EPP). Prior to this, he served as Chairman of the Christian Democrat Union Group (2003-2010) and as Prime Minister of Lower Saxony (2010 – 2013). In 2014, he became a member of the European Parliament.
