The pace of technological change is continuously increasing, resulting in a chain reaction of disruption across multiple dimensions.  Dr. Curley discussed the impact of the convergence of multiple disruptive digital technologies, including ‘Big Data’, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and the Internet of Things.

This event is the Institute’s contribution to the Dublin Data Summit, which is being organized by the Department of An Taoiseach on 15/16 June, 2017.

Dr. Curley outlined the unique attributes of digital technologies and what makes them so potent, as well as identifying key patterns of disruption and key patterns of data driven innovation. In addition, Dr. Curley discussed Open Innovation 2.0 or ‘OI2’, a new and emerging mode of innovation that is both enabled and fuelled by digital technologies, and how it can enable sustainable, intelligent living and the possibility of sustainable, inclusive growth.

 

About the Speaker:

Martin Curley is Professor of Technology and Business Innovation at Maynooth University and Senior Vice President and group head for Global Digital Practice at Mastercard. Previously Dr. Curley was Vice President at Intel Corporation and Director/GM of Intel Labs Europe. He was also a visiting scholar at MIT Sloan Centre for Information Systems Research and was jointly awarded European Chief Technology Officer of the year for 2015-2016. He received his Ph.D. in information systems from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
