IIEA Senior Fellow, Joseph Curtin presented to the Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment on May 16th on the topic of Ireland’s climate strategy within the context of EU commitments for 2020 and 2030.

He focused on two issues:

1. Evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the National Mitigation Plan within the context of recent developments; and
2. And the option of increasing the carbon tax and reducing labour taxes in Budget 2019

He called for a new National Mitigation Plan to set out a strategy for meeting Ireland’s climate objectives, and for an increase in the carbon tax in budget 2019. His full opening statement is available here.
