Making Sense of European Social Policy: Ireland and the Lisbon Treaty

Making Sense of European Social Policy: Ireland and the Lisbon Treaty

1 of a series of 3

Developed with the support of the European Commission for the project Europe 2.0, the pamphlet Making Sense of European Social Policy: Ireland and the Lisbon Treaty is part of a three part series addressing European policy. The series, which also addresses Justice Policy and Defence Policy, is easy to understand and targeted at the young and those who want to find out more about the EU.

The pamphlet explores the social dimension of the European Union as outlined in the Lisbon Treaty and explains the social values for which the EU stands and its relation to the economic single market.  It describes how the EU decision-making procedures impact social policy.  It looks at the difference between policy and law.  And finally, it clarifies the debates on public services, international trade and competition, and workers’ rights.

All three pamphlets are available free of charge.
