Major Conference on Exiting the Crisis

The Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland and the Chair of the powerful European Parliament Budget Committee will address a major conference on the twin crises of the Eurozone and the domestic economy on Friday, 29 June 2012. The conference will be hosted by The Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) with the support of the European Commission. It will take place in the RDS Concert Hall, Dublin.

The conference, entitled ‘Exiting the Crisis’, takes place at the culmination of what will be a crucial week for the future of the European Union. It coincides with the final day of the European Council meeting in Brussels which is being described as a make or break summit for the Eurozone and the wider Union.

Keynote speakers include the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, Patrick Honohan, and the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets, Alain Lamassoure, MEP. Other speakers include:

·      John Bruton, Chairman of the IFSC and former Taoiseach;

·      Donal Donovan, former Deputy Director of the IMF;

·      Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament;

·      Karl Whelan, Professor of Economics at UCD;

·      Jens Boysen-Hogrefe, Economist at the Kiel Institute of the World Economy;

·      Josef Janning, Director of Studies at the European Policy Centre.
