Greece: What Next for the €uro and the EU?
About the Event:
Dan addressed the on-going Greek debt crisis and the possible implications for Ireland and the Eurozone. With Ireland and Portugal already suffering contagion effects from Greece’s crisis, Dan O'Brien examined the Greek rescue package and the recently announced European Stabilisation Fund.
This bailout has proved to be contentious, with scepticism among member states as to whether it will work. Dan discussed the issues surrounding this crisis, viewed by many as the most serious since the collapse of Lehmann Brothers, and the long-term effects for the stability and prosperity of the EU.
About the Speaker:
Dan has covered EU affairs and many western European countries at the Economist Intelligence Unit for over a decade. He regularly comments on European economic and political affairs, making regular appearances in the Irish and international media. Since leaving Ireland in 1991 he has worked for, among others, the European Commission and the United Nations.
