About this Event

23 Jun 2011 @ 12:45

About the Event:

The World Bank Group is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. Like its sister institution, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank Group is currently advancing multiple reforms, expanding cooperation with other organisations, and attempting a transformation to better represent the international economic realities of the post-crisis 21st century.

At this event, Marie-Lucie Morin gave an overview of the evolution of the World Bank Group since its foundation in 1946 before describing the internal transformation that is currently underway. She then outlined how the Group is responding to particular modern challenges including the 'Arab Spring', food price volatility, conflict and security, and climate change.

About the Speaker:

Marie-Lucie Morin took up her role as Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean at the World Bank in November 2010. Prior to this appointment, she served as the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada and Associate Secretary to the Canadian Cabinet from November 2008.

From April 2006 to November 2008, she served as Deputy Minister of International Trade and from December 2003 to April 2006, as Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
