Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro: What next in 2006?

About the Speech:

Tim Judah, a freelance journalist who specialises in the Balkans and is author of Kosovo: War and Revenge and The Serbs: History, Myth and the Destruction of Yugoslavia, spoke to the Balkans Group on "Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro: What next in 2006?". Mr Judah outlined for the group what 2006 holds for the region, he particularly mentioned several 'disaster scenarios' the region may fall victim to if the talks on Kosovo turn sour.

This discussion followed the UN Security Council decision to start talks on the question of the Final Status of Kosovo in October 2005. Chaired by Martti Ahtisaari, these talks will need to balance the implication for the region as well as securing the agreement of the Security Council in any conclusion. For more information on these events see the Institute\'s Balkans Update 9.

A graduate of the London School of Economics and of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University he worked for the BBC[1] before becoming the Balkans correspondent for The Times and The Economist. Judah is also the author of the prizewinning The Serbs: History, Myth and the Destruction of Yugoslavia, published in 1997 by Yale University Press.
