The Role of the Cloud in Delivering EU2020
Jan Muehlfeit, Chief Executive of Microsoft Europe delivered a keynote address to IIEA members on how the EU 2020 strategy for innovation, growth and jobs, (the successor to the Lisbon Strategy for Growth and Jobs) can be enhanced and delivered by cloud computing.
According to Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan, TD : “The Irish Government has identified cloud computing as a key driver of our economic renewal. Not only does this emerging technology afford our ICT sector huge opportunities, but it has the potential to transform the way we, in Government and in the wider economy, do business”.
Cloud Computing is a new technology where data is outsourced and stored in a secure environment (the cloud) and then provided as a service online, either by subscription or on a pay on demand basis to customers.
In his speech, Mr Muehlfeit will deliberate on innovative ways to use the power of technology to help deliver better public services and will address a wide range of important policy issues such as e-health, information privacy and security and transport.
About the Speaker:
Jan Muehlfeit is the Chairman of Microsoft Europe. Jan Muehlfeit is responsible for Microsoft’s engagement with European governments and policy makers. Previously, he was Vice-President for corporate and government strategy, focusing on producing technology solutions for public-sector organisations.

Great presentation on Cloud Computing sounds great, but worried about how secured it can be ?
Good presentation. I agree with the concerns relating to security. I would add fears over cloud 'downtime'. Look at PSN for the past week - imagine a whole organisation being unproductive for such a long period of time.
Excellent presentation on Cloud computing
thnx 4 increasing my knowledge!
Great demonstration. Just concerned over the security aspects. i an in a banking domain, not sure,if this can be propogated there as well.
I love the idea of cloud computing, amazing, but what is the difference between Google's approach to the cloud than Microsoft's. Are they competing or working together and how much profit can be made?
Too many countries have been too slow to jump on the cloud computing train. This can really make a difference how we live our lives and how we can save lives by killing time.(e-Health) Yes security is up for debate, but let's go for it and not be living in paranoia. Great Presentation.
