IIEA Future of Europe Group Roundtable with Pierre Lellouche, French State Secretary for European Affairs

Mr. Lellouche spoke at the IIEA on Tuesday, 28 July at 4:30 p.m. This keynote and event took place under Chatham House rules for invited members only. There is no video available.

About the speech:

As the European Union enters a period of institutional renewal and continues to address the ongoing financial and environmental crises, questions are being raised as to its capacity to respond effectively to the needs and fears of citizens. The French Presidency of the EU in 2008, a very pro-active chairmanship, achieved political agreement on many key dossiers and was instrumental in coordinating activities within the G-20 on the financial crisis. Pierre Lellouche, French State Secretary for European Affairs, will deliver a French perspective on these and other questions relating to the Future of Europe, including how such agreements have progressed and the potential for future evolution of EU policies.

About the speaker:

Pierre Lellouche was appointed State Secretary for European Affairs on 23 June 2009 and has a great depth of experience in international relations, having helped establish the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), one of France's leading think tanks. He was a member of the Foreign Affairs and EU Committees of the National Assembly during his mandate as member of the parliament from 1993 until his appointment of State Secretary. Between November 2004 and November 2006, Mr. Lellouche chaired the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO. Pierre Lellouche read law at the University of Paris (Nanterre), Sciences Po and Harvard University.
