About the Speech:

Globalisation, multi-polarity and the rise of the BRICs is reshaping the nature of international diplomacy. In his address, Michael Emerson discussed how the EU can become a world class foreign policy actor, capable of responding effectively to these trends. 

About the Speaker:

Michael Emerson is a leading foreign policy expert and Associate Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies since 1998. In a distinguished diplomatic and research career, he has previously served as Senior Research Fellow at the LSE (1996-98), EU Ambassador to Moscow (1991-1996), Economic Adviser to European Commission President Roy Jenkins (1977-78) and has also worked in the OECD. He has published widely on European integration, the wider Europe and European foreign policy, including Upgrading the EU’s Role as Global Actor – Institutions, Law and the Restructuring of European Diplomacy, CEPS, 2011.
