The European Energy Efficiency Challenge and Irish Responses

About the Speech:

On Thursday 20 September, the IEA hosted a seminar on the topic of energy efficiency. Following the agreement by European leaders to achieve 20% efficiency saving by 2020 at the Spring European Council earlier this year, this seminar explored the respective roles and interplay between three players in reaching this target.

Stina Sowerta, Member of Cabinet for EU Energy Commissioner, Andris Peibalgs, spoke on the Commission’s approach to energy efficiency. Sarah White, Deputy Secretary-General and head of the energy division at the Department of Marine, Energy and Natural Resources, reviewed Ireland’s energy efficiency performance and offer a perspective on Ireland’s pathway to achieving the 2020 targets. David Taylor, CEO of Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI), discussed the relationship between market transformation and energy efficiency and the role SEI plays in achieving Ireland's goals.
