About the Speech:

Ambassador Kavanagh has been Irish Ambassador to France since September 2009. In his address to the IIEA, he will share his unique insights into France’s European policy. His speech is also likely to cover Franco-German relations, the country’s transition from a centre-right government under Nicolas Sarkozy to a socialist government under François Hollande and French responses to the Eurozone crisis.

About the Speaker:

Ambassador Kavanagh is a highly experienced Irish diplomat. He previously served as Ambassador to the United Nations in New York (2007-2009); Ambassador to the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation in Geneva (2006-2007); and Ambassador to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union in Brussels (2004-2006).

He is due to take up the post of Irish Ambassador to China this year, returning to the city of his first overseas posting where, from 1979 to 1982, he participated in establishing Ireland’s Embassy in Beijing.
