About the Event:

Belgium took over the Presidency of the European Union from Spain on 1 July 2010. This will be the twelfth time that Belgium has held the Presidency. In addition to an ambitious and comprehensive programme of its own, the country promises to break from previous practice by emphasising its support for Herman Van Rompuy and Catherine Ashton and focusing on the new mechanics of the EU post-Lisbon.

About the Speaker:

Ambassador François Roux is the Chief Diplomatic Advisor to the Belgian State Secretary for European Affairs, Olivier Chastel. He played a central role in drafting and negotiating the Presidency programme with his government partners.
