About the Event:

Ireland’s water sector faces multiple challenges and is responding with a major transformation. Drawing from the EU-IMF Memorandum of Understanding and the National Recovery Plan, the Government has committed to establish a state water utility and a water regulator. In the context of these developments, this IIEA half day seminar facilitated debate on how this transition might best be managed. Bringing together international experts and stakeholders it explored European models of best practice in water governance, market reform and financing.

The seminar commenced with a keynote address by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan T.D., who discussed the challenge for the Government to establish a new national water utility and a new regulator and to find a fair funding model that incentivises water conservation and ensures cost recovery.

Please see the seminar programme for full details of the event.
