About the Event:

The European Banking Authority (EBA) is one of three newly established European Supervisory Authorities, which alongside the European Systemic Risk Board form the core of the EU's new system of financial supervision.

At this breakfast briefing, EBA Executive Director Adam Farkas discussed the challenges facing regulators and supervisors in dealing with Europe's banking and sovereign debt crises, as well as specific measures such as the EU-wide banking stress tests which his organisation has just concluded.

About the Speaker:

Adam Farkas took up his role as the first Executive Director of the European Banking Authority on 18 April 2011. Prior to his appointment, he was the Chairman of the Hungarian Financial Supervisory Authority. He has worked as a consultant to various financial institutions in Budapest and London, including the EBRD. Between 1997 and 2001, he was a Managing Director and Member of the Board at the National Bank of Hungary. He then transferred to the private sector, and worked as the co-CEO of CIB Bank Ltd, a subsidiary of Gruppo Intesa, in 2002-2005. Later he became the CEO of Allianz Bank Ltd. (Allianz Group).
