About this Event

23 Oct 2008

Keynote Address with David Hone, Shell Group Climate Advisor

About the Speaker:

Following the publication of the IIEA’s new report "The Climate Change Challenge”, and its findings that the consequences of unmitigated growth of Irish CO2 emissions would be negative for the economy and industry, the Institute wishes to deepen the discussion with an in-depth look at possible futures for Ireland.

Within this context, David Hone presented Shell’s Strategic Energy Scenarios to 2050 \'Scramble and Blueprints\'. He discussed what increasing global energy consumption and a steady growth in CO2 emissions mean for the future of our global energy and climate systems. He  then considered the consequences of these developments and the global climate policy framework for a small, highly developed economy such as Ireland. Finally, he discussed policy options for dealing with this urgent challenge.
