Remittances & Internet Payments: Challenges and Trends in Online Payments

About the Speech:

Since the mid-1990s and the foundation of eBay, the market for online transactions has grown exponentially year-on-year, not only in terms of money exchanged but also in the diversity of products, services and consumers. Today, this upward trend continues at pace, however there is still a disproportionately low level of legal or business structures supporting this market place.

This roundtable offers a unique opportunity to understand, from both the business and legal perspectives, how the remittances and Internet payments sector can be matured to create a secure and stable online transactions industry.

Mr. Colm Lyon (CEO of Realex Payments) and Mr. Rob Corbet (an expert on digital law with Arthur Cox)  discussed the issues surrounding the Remittances and Internet Payment sector.

About the Speakers:

Colm Lyon is Founder and CEO of Realex Payments. He is highly regarded as one of the foremost innovation leaders in the online payment processing business. His career has spanned almost twenty five years in payment related businesses, starting with fourteen years in the financial service sector.

Rob Corbet is a Partner with Arthur Cox, and his practice is primarily focused on technological innovation.  He has particular experience in data protection, advising many of Ireland’s largest companies.  He is also a leading adviser in the area of sports law where he advises many significant players, both domestic and international. Rob has been widely published on IT, IP and related matters both domestically and internationally.
