About this Event

21 Feb 2011 @ 12:45

About the Speaker:

His Excellency Andrew Heyn has been British ambassador to Burma since 2009. Ambassador Heyn has previously held diplomatic posts in Portugal, Venezuela and Ireland. In 2010, he wrote a series of highly-acclaimed and frank articles for the Guardian ahead of the Burmese elections held in November.

About the Event:

At this keynote address, Ambassador Heyn gave an analysis of recent events in Burma. As well as having an exceptional knowledge of the political situation in Burma, in 2009 Ambassador Heyn was granted the rare privilege of meeting Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese opposition leader, while she was under house arrest. Aung San Suu Kyi was released from house arrest in November 2010. She was freed following a general election which was widely criticised for its lack of transparency.

Ambassador Heyn’s in-depth familiarity with Burmese politics make him uniquely qualified to address this topic.
